Music

Music is and has always been something I love doing. I like listening to music too, but I am fortunate to also have some skill at composition. In my youth I studied piano playing with Shirley Mathews, an accomplished Baroque pianist, from the tender age of five until graduation from high school. In college I majored in Music with a focus on composition (as well as in Computer Science), and after an excellent course on music theatre with Greg Pliska I fell in love with music theatre.

Currently my major project is a music-theatre adaptation of John Milton's classic poem Paradise Lost. I've also scored an amateur film, written music for several computer games and composed and produced a music-theatre comedy.

I have strong opinions on music composition, but according to my professors they're pretty much all wrong. Fortunately, I've graduated. (My music profs at Williams were wonderful men and women who were very encouraging of musical exploration; it's a bit of a simplification to say that they thought my composition ideas 'wrong'. But it's not too far off.)
